Black Oak Arkansas

Saturday, 8:30pm, Lilac Bowl Stage

With a new record coming this summer, Black Oak Arkansas are one of America's greatest live rock and roll bands and are led by one of the greatest front men of all time - "Jim Dandy" Mangrum. The band reached the height of its fame in the 1970s with ten Billboard charting albums, three of which went gold, one of which went platinum, and one gold single, “Jim Dandy To The Rescue” which they were told to record by none other than Elvis Presley.

From 1972 to 1977, Black Oak Arkansas was among the top five money-making bands in the world. They headlined arenas, sold out stadiums and toured with the likes of Aerosmith, Kiss and Bad Company in support. "Most of the big acts opened for us", remembers Dandy. "Hell, Kiss even burned down one of our backdrops".
